Default Works on and offwith incomplete cycle
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 11084416110
Age: More than 10 years

The washer works on and off with incomplete cycles. if putting a little bit more clothes in the tub, the machine would not go instead of humming. I tried to take some clothes out to make it lighter, it still would not move. I had to take the water out of the tub, then tried to use the spin cycle to get the water out completely. Sometime it did spin, not always. I openned the top metal frame of the machine, touched the back of the timer. The moter , a round shape part attched to the timer, was very hot. I waited a few hours when it was cool, I then tried at different cycles. It worked sometimes, not always. However it would always stopped at the rinse cycle with humming noise.
Which parts would make the machine stop when it gets overheated, TIMER, MOTOR ON THE TIMER?
Will someone please kindly give me some tips of what the problems are? Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Bernard

Is the humming noise coming form the timer area every time the washer stops?

If this is the case you will have to replace the timer.

Here is a link to a list of parts to your washer model 11084416110.

Thanks for the quick help. This morning I continued the remainder cycle, rainse, left from the incomplete wash last night. However when it acted on the halfway the wash hummed and stopped. The noise I heard was more likely from the bottom part around the motor. Was the motor too old to use? or parts around the motor got burned ? I did smell burning odor sometimes. Please help again.
Thank you once more for being so helpful.

Best regards,

Bernard

I think I may only be getting half the story.

Did you replace the motor under the washer?

Is it the belt that you are smelling?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I did not do any work on the washer so far. Because of the limited space for the laundry room ( living in the Condo ) I can only cut an area of 6" x 12 " on the front panel to monitor the washing actions. Therefore the motor is unchanged. The belt so far looks OK. I did not see any cracks on it . I gave some spray of WD-40 on it. I thank you again.

Best regards,

Bernard

When the humming started, there was no movement under neath the washer as I knew.
Just before I reply your latest reponse, I tried the remaining cycle from this afternoon, half way of the rinse cycle to the last spin cycle.
It went through and completed.
It looks to me that something has been overheated . The overheating may cause the stops from cycle to cycle.
In the past 3 times of washing (all is to complete the incomplete cycle from the 1st step of washing ), I also tried to reset the timer( a white little switch on the back of the timer ). But the noise was not from the timer as I noticed before.
Please kindly guide me again. Thanks million.

Best regards,

Bernard

Last night , I made another wash. It washed a few minutes , then it stopped. I found dripping water from the bottom of the bucket. It was all around the bottom of the bucket and it was very hard to pinpoint out where the leak was from. The drips made one ground
wire wet. I guess that was one of the reasons the stop was caused by the short of the motor. The drips continued until I took the water out of the bucket, although not all of the water. However the dripping stopped. Now I wonder where the drips came from. I try
to avoid a big leak or flood if I continue to do the washing. I do not know if the drips were from the bad inner seal of the agitator or not
Please guide me further for solving these problems. Thanks again.

Best regards,

Bernard

Sounds like you have a frozen water pump. You will need to lean this washer over on it front, remove back panel and check the water pump and belt. This is a very old Inglis washer, it might not be worth fixing if too many problems.

Thank you very much for your advice. I agree with you. It is a really old one. This morning I played a little bit again. I tried to get the remaining water spin out. I set it on half way of the rinse cycle first, but it turned to getting more water released. It got all messed up. I hope there is a miracle that letting me simplely fix it before I decide to junk it. Thanks to all of you who have responded my headaches.
I will be delighted to accept other comments as well.

Best regards,

Bernard
