Default Won't stop filling
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAV5000AWW
Age: More than 10 years

I thought I had a belt problem but that is ok. With further research I find that the washer when turned on the wash cycle will not stop filling and overflows the tub. It does not agitate while filling. The timer will go thru the cycles if I move it down to rinse or spin but will overfill even on rinse. I can's check timer on wash cycle since tub would overflow, spin works fine.

Here is a link to your unit
Maytag MAV5000AWW

The culprit is probably the water level pressure switch
It has tubing which runs to the bottom of the tub
As water rises in the tube it increases the air pressure in the tube and this activates the switch. Your switch is not activating.
Possible causes:
Switch is shot
Tubing blocked with crud somewhere
Tubing cracked or not making a good seal at the switch allowing air to escape

We had the same problem with a model A710 Maytag and the problem proved to be a plugged air tube. Over the many years we owned this machine, deposits built up in the lower portion of the tube and plugged it. My husband pulled the tube out and cleaned it out and reinstalled it and everything worked just fine. The hardest part was getting the ring back on the hose where it attaches to the tub. He said an adjustakle hose clamp would have helped.
Thanks every one for sharing your expertise, it helped a great deal.
Chris

I am having the same problem with a Kenmore, but it only affects the hot water. Cold water shutoff works fine at every level. I have been just using cold water, but need to use hot as well. I thought something had clogged the inlet valve, so I banged the machine around a little and it worked fine. But a few days later, I had the problem again. I will check out the vacuum tube as suggested. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

It will not be the water level shut off system including the tube. I cuts power to both hot and cold at the same time. Your water valve probably needs replacing, the hot is sticking open.
