Default Won't spin unless I take some clothes out
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: lsr8433kqo
Age: 1 - 4 years

Seems to work if the load is not big. Everythings sounds like it is running. I believe there is a rubber or cloth type coupler on this model. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

No, not tranny. You probably have something dragging like brake shoes or a sock in the tub.

rjhoover72;

If your spin clutch lining was bad, you could change it in 15 min, no biggie. to test
put a pencil or short screw driver in lid switch hole. Hold the rim of the spin basket,
set to fast spin, pull out knob, should feel firm resistance, if wimpy, loosen your grip on spin basket and feel how strong it pulls. no biggie. If you let go of spin basket, should then spin real fast in about 8-12 seconds, if normal Bettyboop

Yes, I just tried that there was a firm resistance, then I let go and it did take off
and start spinning. So then it's the clutch kit i need to install? If so you said it was
a 15 minute deal would you kindly guide me through it? Thanks in advance. And how would I find a sock in the tub??

With the cabinet off, remove the white plastic ring on top of the tub, and look all around between spin basket & outer tub, for a sock or washcloth. you can look at the bottom of the clear plastic tub for any thing that doesn belong.
To change clutch lining pry off the agitator cap, remove the bolt inside with a 7/16" socket. and pull out agitator, now tip washer on it's back, un plug wires from motor, , remove the 2 hoses from pump, remove 2 little screws and prise off motor clips,(leave pump on motor)and pull away from machine, remove 3 shinny bolts that hold the transmission, with a 1/2" socket wrench.grab trans with both hands and pull it all the way out. Now look at the transmission. setting on top with the long chrome shaft sticking through it is the spin clutch. inside the chrome dish shaped thing, is the lining. pinch the spring part with plyers and remove.pinch the new lining the same way, and reinstall. make sure that the washer is still on the shaft before you put it back together, smear a very small amount of grease on long shaft, and I mean a slight film,as this is the only time it gets greased when it's apart. should take you 15min, I'm old and I can do it in 10 min P.S. while apart the motor coupling should be replaced with the heavy duty coupling part#285753A, for better reliability. Bad advice from Bettyboop, if your brake shoes are dragging, your new clutch will wear out again!! Plus, he is setting up a recepie for disaster!!
If your brake shoes are dragging, the new cluch can cause the motor current to exceed burnout levels, and if the brake shoes continue to deteriorate, the motor bearings will fail
Pull off motor and turn coupler clockwise, if hard to turn with one hand=dragging brake shoes.
To replace, I loosen spin basket nut and pull up one side of basket to loosen, then under tub I pry down the brake shoes till they clear the housing, then just take the c clips off center cam and brake shoes. Inspect brake housing, if pitted from rust, new brake shoes will still drag, one fix is to grind down old brake shoes. Just grind off about 1/4 of shoe thickness.
Will get you the brake shoe part #s later this morning.

I've never had a situtation like that, ie brake shoes dragging, over heating motor, burning out motor bearings, quickly wearing out new clutch!! never ever Bettyboop

Only on the newer washers, they removed 3 clutch pads and the clutches now wear out sooner and also the brake shoes appear to be made out of softer metal. Have seen one washer with worn bearings from the brake shoes grabbing, and several washers where the dragging brake shoes caused the motor current to go up to 10 amps!!
