Default Won't spin, burning smell, squeeking
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FLXE52RBS8
Age: 5 - 10 years

A few days ago, I noticed a heavy burning smell during the final spin cycle. I also noticed that there was loud squeaking sound as well. After the final spin cycle had completed, the clothes were still soaking wet, and obviously had not been spun properly, if at all. I opened the front panel of the washer and immediately noticed transmission oil underneath the transmission. What can be the source of the leak? What is the cause of the squeaking? Is some kind of friction within the transmission due to loss of oil causing it as well as the burning smell? The belt is fine. Can it be that the belt is just slipping during the spin cycle because of the oil that got on the belt from the transmission leak? It agitates fine, and everything else seems to be fine. Any advice you can provide on how to repair this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

if your tranny is leaking, there's not much else you can do but replace it. frigidaire transmissions aren't serviceable except for a complete replacement. as for the burning smell, yea your oil on belt sounds like a probable cause or the tranny is seizing up.

Much thanks for the reply. I can spin the transmission freely by hand, so I don't think it is seizing up. Since the transmission is free to turn, shouldn't the belt spin with the motor during the spin cycle? I can clearly see the motor shaft spinning, but the belt is not turning with it. Any ideas, suggestions?

Thanks

the motor pulley is turning and the belt is not? i might be misunderstanding you. the tranny brake releases during spin so the motor and the belt can spin freely. if the motor is trying to spin and your belt is not budging, its the tranny for sure. and all that oil is a guarantee the transmission is tanking, sorry.
