Will spin clockwise instead of agitation (it won't agitate) and will spin counter. Brand: Maytag Model Number: A612 Age: More than 10 years RE: Maytag top-loading washer model A612, more than ten years old.
We smelled rubber burning, checked and found the belts melted. When we turned the machine up on its back a thick brown oil came out of the brake...a fairly good amount.
We replaced the brake, the bearing and the belts.
Thinking it was the motor, we took it out, too. Unfortunately, we also took out the two screws that secure the connector switch to the motor and it came apart. Of course all the connections came out when it did.
We re-mounted the motor and using the diagram on top of the motor switch we think we got all the connections back in the proper place.
It would sure be nice if we could get the schematics for the switch to double-check...the motor is an XC Maytag, part 2-1666-14, model 568PXGCN-7045, 1/3 HP, 60 HZ, 115 Volts, 6.9/6.4 AMPS, RPM 1725/1140, CLB, Thermally Protected L, MFG. NO. A89A9. If you have it or know where I can find it, please let me know.
Then we hooked it up. Everything works fine, except that it will not agitate. Instead, it spins counter-clockwise in that cycle. Note: It spins clockwise in the 'spin' cycle.
Because there didn't seem to be any oil of any kind in the new brake, we suspect that the oil that filled up the old brake was leaked through a seal in the transmission and down the shaft. We took the old brake apart and found no seals or anything that would lead one to suspect it was not intended to have oil in it.
We figure the only other thing it could be is the mis-placement of the wires in the motor switch (see above). Going by the diagram, we did it right, but there is a mysterious purple wire coming from the motor itself that we think is right, but are not sure.
It seems the most likely problem is with a dry transmission. It has the regular transmission not the orbital one.
We'd sure appreciate any help you could give. Just knowing if there's supposed to be oil in the brake would help a lot.
Thanks. |
