In order to get it to spin you have to open the cover, stick a screwdriver in the door switch to activate it, manually start the drum turning and let it go. You have to go thru the same process for spin number 2 and oddly enough spin three works fine. I think it is the timer because when you open the door and then reactivate the door switch the drum will jerk like it was put in gear. I just want to confirm that my thinking was correct before I ordered a 120 dollar part.
I'm not quite sure how this works, but I have a Kenmore washing machine model 100.20622990 that works fine except for the spin cycle. I have to manually move the "dial" one (1) notch forward, then push in and push out the dial. It seems I need some type of repair, but I'd like to know what to purchase so that I can make the repair myself. Please email me with solution.

It sounds like you may need a new timer.

Can you let me know if it will spin in an other cycle like the delicate cycle?
