Default Whirlpool Washer Won't Drain
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: 3357978
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi There,
We have a whirlpool supreme washing machine (not sure about model number, the number given above is stamped on rear panel) and the machine won't drain. All the other functions work but when it is time to empty out there is a loud hum, a lot of current is being drawn, basement lights dim and finally the breaker trips. Something is trying to switch or turn but it is just not happening. I have taken the machine apart. The pump rotates in both directions and the motor works certainly in every function other than drain. I don't understand how the drain cycle works. The pump is connected to the motor and turns whenever the motor turns. Is the pump always pumping back into the machine except in drain cycle when it turns in the opposite direction? Is the hum and current draw the motor trying to start or a solenoid?

If you need the model number and the number I have given is incorrect perhaps you can tell me where I can find it. Any help much appreciated,

Guy

Default

When your washer is washing the motor runs forward, when it spins, it runs backward, 2 separate fuctions, the spin part could be bad
