Default Whirlpool Washer Stalls
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LSN1000LW10
Age: 5 - 10 years

Two weeks ago we started our washing machine in the regular cycle. The tub filled, it began to agitate and then stalled. Smoke and a slight burning odor were observed. A Whirlpool authorized technician diagnosed a bad timer. I purchased and installed a new timer but the result was the same. It fills, starts agitating but then stalls. I can advance the cyclce to pump it out and spin but no agitation. I found burnt contacts and a burn spot on the motor start switch so I changed that out and the motor coupling while I had it apart. The result was the same. The lid switch ohm checked ok and I even jumped it out to run the machine, same result. I tested the capacitor with a digital meter and it seems ok. I ohm checked the motor and got the following results; high winding = 1.3 ohms, start winding = 4.2 ohms, extra low winding = 1.3 ohms, low winding = 2.2 ohms, white to white/black = 0 ohms, blue to wh/or = 2.8 ohms, blue to wh/vio = 2.8 ohms, wh/blk to wh/or = 2.6 ohms, wh/blk to wh/vio = 2.2 ohms, wh/or to wh/vio = 4.0 ohms and wh/blk to blue = 1.3 ohms. I also checked all seven wires to the motor casing = no shorts. Any suggestions? I am running out of things to test.

Remove the pump and check to see if it will turn in both direction.

Here is a link to your washer model LSN1000LW10.

I removed the pump. The impeller spins freely in both directions. I could not see any clog or damage to the pump.
