Does the washer make any sounds like it is trying to do something?

If there are no sounds check the wiring in the console and down to the motor.

Here is a link to your washer model RAX4232KQ1.

Don't worry about the motor, it is definetly the lid switch To get you by for the weekend. Unplug the washer, and open the lid, and on the right side where the lid closes you will see two screws. Take them out, cut the wires and wire the two wires together, and tape them up, and you got it for the weekend. You should be able to by the lid switch from this web site. I believe Sheila can help you. The part # is3949247. When you get it, If you don't want to take the cabinet off, just cut the wires on the new one, and wire it up to the wires you tape together. One new switch wire goes to 1 of the taped wires, and the other new wire goes to the other wire you taped up. Tom

Yes, there is a slight sound of gears moving, but nothing happens with agitation or spinning.....................James

If the motor is running it likely the coupler that goes between the motor and transmission that has failed.

The washer should still drain the water if the motor runs.

Check to see if there are any piece of black rubber under the washer.

Need more info on what exactly is happening
Here is a link. It is not your specific model but is close and does have a decent troubleshooting section

YOUR PROBLEM CAN BE CAUSED BY A NUMBER OF THINGS. The lid switch is just the most common.

I disagree with just cutting and taping the wires for any extended period unless you take extra precautions.
Down the road you could have an arc and spark, may not hurt you but it will scare the livin outta you.

Standard electrical tape is not great in wet or high humidity conditions and will unravel over time. Cut the wires at different locations About one to two inches
apart. The idea is to not have the splices where they could touch each other. Join one to the new switch wire and tape at an angle over your splice (start at least an inch before the splice location) then without cutting your tape, tape back over the splice. Then make your second splice and tape over both of the splices then back again. If the hole the wire has to go through is large enough do this twice, cut your tape. Then get a small cable ties and put one around the tape where you cut it, this will prevent the tape from unraveling over time. If you do not have a cable tie you can use a twist tie wrapped around twice just twist it really really good

Alternatively replace the switch the proper way

I know it seems like a lot of trouble but better safe than sorry. I have used the above to wire in rad fans on cars and never had a problem down the road.
