Default Whirlpool Duet
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GHW9300PW4
Age: 1 - 4 years

The control panel of my Whirlpool Duet GHW9300PW4 is locked, but the control lock button is not lit. The load selector indicator light flashes red no matter what load is selected (instead of being steadily lit red). When I press and hold the Start Button, the door lock does not engage and the machine does not start washing. There are no error codes in the display. Can anyone help?

Hello rita00,

I'm guessing that your door lock is not functioning but before we say that for sure, try running a set of diagnostics. Follow the instructions below and lets see if anything comes up.
DIAGNOSTIC TEST
The control must be in the OFF state before pressing the touch-pad sequence to start the test.
Starting the test mode
Close the door.
Press the Control On button.
Select the DRAIN/SPIN cycle.
Select NO SPIN by pressing the SPIN SELECT button, as needed.
Push Prewash Option button four (4) times within five (5) seconds. C:00 will show in the display.
NOTE: If Model does not have PREWASH Mode as an option, press RINSE/HOLD.
If the Starting procedure fails, push PAUSE/CANCEL button. Then repeat the starting sequence.
Test Program Control during Execution
To advance to the next step of the test procedure, push Prewash Option button two (2) times.

If you are unable to do this then we can try something else. If you get a code, write it down as you pass through each step. Hopefully through this we can quickly isolate the problem.

I was not able to do the diagnostic test. The display showed :02 minutes (from the drain/spin selection) that flickered a little when I pushed the button 4 times, but it did not display C:00 for the diagnostic test. When I pressed and held the start button, I could hear a slight sound from the door lock trying to engage, but it did not lock.

This in fact convinces me more that your door lock is failing. I repaired one of these last week. I noticed however over the course of repairing four or five of these that the machine seems to produce different errors and faults but all resulting to the door lock. Here is a link where you can get this.

Their is one more thing. It bothers me a little that you said the display flickered a little; this concerns me that you may have a harness lose. It shouldn't flicker. No matter what the problem the display should be clear. If you want to check this first than let me know and I will assist.

Patron,

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of part #7. My husband took our machine apart and there was a wiring harness loose on the door lock. He reconnected it, and it's working great now. I was not in a position to afford an expensive service call so I am very appreciative for all your help.
