Default Whats Wrong
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: La8240
Age: More than 10 years

I own a La8240 Maytag washer and in the middle of the cycle it stopped washing. I then lifted the lid and let back down and it started working again. Went to wash another load and the tub filled up but it won't agitate, drain or spin. I thought it might be the lid switch and opened up the control panel to see switch and found a 1amp fuse burned out inside the switch. So I repalced with correct fuse and tried it out and water fills tub but still won't agitate or drain. Checked fuse and it blew new fuse, replaced again and it blew fuse again. Also noticed the dail won't move after tub fills with water. Can anybody help me ? Is it worth repairing or should I just by a new one. Why won't dail move? (Fuse blown?) Any suggestions.

There are two switch in the lid switch assemble.

The contact on one of the switches is not open and causing a short circuit and blowing the fuse.

You will likely have to replace the one of the switches.

Here is a link to your washer model la8240.
