Default Wet Clothes
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GHW9100LW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Whirlpool Duet Washer GHW9100LW. My wife complains about the washer not spinning the clothes “dry” enough. It uses to spin them almost dry, but here lately the clothes come out really wet. It still seems like it spins really fast.

Any help would be appreciated.

Matt

If you take the bottom panel off, you will see the pump, in the middle front. Unscrew the cover, and remove all that junk in the pump, and mama, will LOVE YOU forever. You owe me. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Default WHOA - a SOCK?

I did it. Thanks for the hint.

I removed the kick panel, unscrewed the filter cover, found a nail, a Chuck-E-Cheese token and a sock. I get the nail... through a drain hole in the drum. The token MAAAYYYbe through a crack between drum and seals. But how did the SOCK make it down in there? Only a sock for a 4 yr old, but still... a sock?

I myself have removed numerous traps to clear debris and I have come across alot of interesting items. Pencils and Pens, socks, money, half of a screwdriver, toys, etc. etc. etc. The only sure way to ensure you dont run into alot of future problems is to check your pockets before you wash, and clean that trap twice a month! If things build up in there, eventually it would damage the fins on the pump I would believe. This would then create a more costly repair that could have been avoided.

Tom Thanks, I took off the cover and found $6.39 in change in the trap. 9 quarters, 32 dimes, 9 nickels, and 24 pennys. Let me know where to send the money! Mama will LIKE for a awhile (until something else breaks), not sure about LOVE me forever. Thanks so much for the help. This is why a LOVE forums good people helping others. Thanks again.

UPDATE: I just did a load of laundry on the washer after taking out all the money. I still looks like the clothes are still wetter that should be. I think it's better, but it's not a good as it uses to be. I checked the trap again and only found two little pieces in it. I also checked the fins on the pump and they seemed fine. There was a lot of water when I undid the cover (don't know if that's normal or not). Also checked the hose that comes down and it seemed fine.

Could it be the pump has been damaged with all that change in there for so long. Thanks for you help.

Matt

It is possible that the pump is damaged. Look at the drain hose that goes in the drain, and make sure it is not kinked. If not and you feel the clothes are not as dry as they should be, I would replace the pump. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Default Crazy Idea

Maybe one of those quarters made it past the filter. It might be worth a check. I would pull the hose out of the wall-drain just a little bit to just check on the overall flow (carefull there... don't want to wipe out all them atta-boys!).

When I removed the filter cover on my washer, I too got about 1/4 to 1/2 gallon of water. I think this water is what is stuck between the pump impellers and the bend in the neck of the drain hose. Once the pump stops, the water falls back into the (for lack of a better word) "collection vortex" and filter area. I think your water is normal.
