Default Water won't drain automatically
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110-82983830
Age: More than 10 years

Machine stopped draining water automatically. The timer still advances through the cycle howevwr the basket is full of water. If I physically reset the timer past the rinse mark it usually finishes the cycle. As of today that no longer worked. Any ideas.

Check your lid switch.

Make sure the screws holding the switch in place and you can hear it click when you close the lid.

Here is a link to the parts of your washer model 110-82983830.

Default Not The Switch

Thank you Shiela. It does not appear to be the switch. As soon as the wash cycle is finished the mechanical parts of the machine just shut off. The timer continues. There is no sound therefore it seems there is no signal going to the rinse and spin cycles. Any other thoughts?

Have you tried using it in one of the other cycles to see if it works?

The lid switch controls the drain and spin.

Will the washer spin when the tub is empty?

Default Not the lid switch

I have installed a new lid switch but still have the same problem. The water never appears to drain after the wash cycle because it is still soapy. The timer moves on through the cycle. What else can effect fill and drain besides the lid switch. This is very frustrating.

Shiela,
Any other thoughts on my post from 8/6/07? All cycles appear to be the same. The water never drains after washing. The new lid switch didn't fix the problem.

Does the washer spin if it is empty?

There may be something blocking the drain.

If I keep changing the timer dial, the water does drain but only when I hit the right spot on the dial. It bypasses this operation on the regular cycle.

This would be the timer causing the problem.
