Default WATER not shutting off/leaking
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FWX6971EW2
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi:
I have a frigidaire washer. Model # FWX6971EW2. Serial # XC84836906.
Worked perfect until today. Did laundry yesterday with no problems. Today I turned it on, it just keeps on filling water. Does not shut off. When I turned it off I hear water dripping and see water leaking from the washer going into the floor drain. How complicated is this? Do I need to call the repair man or can I fix it myself. For now I have just unplugged the washer.
Any help appreciated.

Did you have to shut the water off a the tap to stop it from coming in the washer?

If you did it is the fill valve.

It is not hard to change the valve if you are handy.

If when you turn the washer off the water stopped coming in then it is your pressure switch.

This is also easy to change.

Here is a link to your washer model FWX6971EW2.

The pressure switch is number 5 on the control panel breakdown.

Here is the water fill valve. It is located on the back of the washer where the hoses attach.

When the water did not shut off, I just pushed the control knob in and it stopped. But then water was leaking and I could hear it dripping somewhere in the washer and then saw water on the floor. This morning almost all the water was gone , but there is still some left that is not going anywhere.

Default How do I take the switch out

Hi:
Thanks for the response.
I guess the switch is in that little console that holds the knobs and that sits on the back-top of the washer. How do I take it apart or may be open it is a better phrase. Is this swith plug and play or do I have to solder any thing????
Any help appreciated.

First thing is to drain the washer and take off the plastic tube going to the water level swich, then blow in it. You will probably find it is clogged up. Go to the bottom of the tub and pull the tube off the reservoir. Use a q-tip or piece of wire to clean a path thru the reservoir. The stuff you will find in there is due to cheap detergent.
If tube is clear you need a new water level switch.

Fixed now. All I had to do is re-attach the tube coming from the switch at the bottom end. It somehow had come lose. So I took it off at the swich and put the switch end now at the bottom and cleaned the bottom end and put it at the switch, since I did not wanted to make a trip to the store anymore. The bottom end seemed a bit wider than the top and since that end is more prone to vibration due to the tub spinning, I used the switch end that seems to be a bit narrower there. I did the blowing and got the bubble response, so that made me happy.I will get another piece of tubing later on and put it in. For now I can do my wash and better I did not need a switch after all.
Thanks
