Default Water extraction on spin cycle
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LA7088XT
Age: More than 10 years

My washer still works very well except that water is not extracted from the clothes on the spin cycle as well as before. The clothes are NOT dripping wet, just not as dry at the end of the spin cycle as they were before. This has been the case for about a year. Can this be fixed? Is it a sign that the washer is failing?

Is you washer spinning? If so, there are some things to check.
Go to partselect.com for take apart info. Pull outer panel away from washer base and short the lid switch socket with a jumper wire.
Run in spin and check the brake housing above tranny. If it gets hot you probably have dragging brake shoes, or something caught in the tub. Post results.

Thanks for your reply. Before taking the washer apart, we would like to know what we would do if we discover dragging brake shoes. Would this require professional replacement and/or repair of the brake shoes? Is it a do-it-yourself kind of repair?
Thanks again.

The brake shoe little rollers that the cam moves to release the shoes wears so that they no longer release all the way. I just grind the brake shoes and soak in oil, then they no longer drag.
Also, you may find with all the dragging that the clutch is now worn out. Not too difficult to replace all this stuff if you can handle mechanical things and like to save money
