Default Water drain pump stops...
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: WPSQ4160t2WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

When the washer tub begins to spin, the water drain pump also gets activated to drain the water. But the pump stops prematurely some time before the tub finishes spinning, causing incomplete drainage.

A strange thing I discovered is that while the tub is spinning, lifting the washer lid for a brief moment and letting it close causes the pump motor to start again and remain active for a while. I usually end up playing with the lid a few times within a spinning cycle.

What would cause the pump to stop in the middle of the tub spinning?

edit: I found 3 of the 4 tub dampening straps broken and replaced all of them when the above mentioned problem started. This repair did not make any difference with the problem.

edit #2: When the pump motor is working, the tub does not spin, but while the tub is spinning, the pump motor does not work. It appears to be that the problem is electrical, rather than mechanical. Is it the timer that is failing?

This does sound like an electrical problem.

Unfortunately I do not have the wiring diagram for this model.

It could be in the timer.

I checked the voltage fed to the drain pump and found it to be at 115V while the pump is supposed to active, but it sopped. Therefore, I decided the motor is partially damaged and replaced it.

I got a new motor (WS23x10013), which appears to be somewhat different from the previous one. I can't find a connector for the green ground wire which was present on the previous one. Don't I need to ground this motor?

Thank you for your help.

The mount of the pump is the ground on the new pump.

The wire is not necessary.
