I started having spin problems a while back. I smelled a belt burning. I replaced the belts and still seem to have the problem during the spin cycle. After the spin cycle and the motor had stopped, the drive pulley on the motor was very hot to the touch. I was told it could be a bearing starting to go out and causing a drag or it could be that the brake does not release all of the way. (these can cause belts to go out) The tub is not leaking any water and shows no signs that it did. Could the problem be the springs that tighten the belts. I say this cause the belts seem rather loose even after I put the new ones on.

I plan to remove the motor and check the springs and clean the guides today to see if that helps. What do you think? Thanks for your help. Mike.

I have the same problem with my maytag.. haven't complety checked everything yet but seem to be leaning to a brake lock problem. the belt is worn ,, but should be OK.. when I tighten the belt during the spin cycle the motor binds because the transmission doesn't appear to release the tube to free spin.
Thus the sqeaking sounds and burning smells start,,r

It could very well be a pump problem. Take the belt off, and turn the pump pully. It should turn rather freely. If not, you would need a brake package. I can be reached at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
