Default Washing machine
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT9593AAW
Age: 5 - 10 years

the machine was off balance, all that was needed was to rearrange clothes and then close lid. however, the timer knob was advanced to spin and then nothing worked. The washer does't spin, or agitate, it only fills with water.

Is there something that needs to be tripped to let it know the off balance problem was solved.

I would put my money on the lid switch

Here is a link to a parts break down
Maytag LAT9593AAW

Here is a link to some Maytag dryers the lid switch on page8-19 looks the same as yours
Free Appliance Repair Forum - Downloads

It is the most complicated lid switch I have ever seen even has a fuse
I could not find a wiring diagram
If you do not have yours there is a good chance it is in the control panel
It will help you with tracing circuits. The Maytag dryers link does show how they wire this in

Before you replace the lid switch assembly. Close the lid, and then open and close the lid 2 times in a row, and then throw it in the spin cycle. See if that works. That is how you reset that switch when you have an out of balance load. If you need me I can be reached at T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE Tom
