Angry Washer works great until spin
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 80 series
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a kenmore washer that only spins when it feels like it, sometimes it will spin on only the first spin or only the final spin or not at all. doesnt matter size of load or the setting. i have replaced the plastic part that 'replaced' the belt, i have changed the timer. that worked for about 3 months and now it is back messing up again. when it is time to spin it will pump the water out and then start to make a funny noise. if i lift the lid and close it it will work for a while, at least until the next spin cycle. timers arent cheap and cant afford to replace the washer. could there be something else wrong with this washer?

thank you for any help or advice.

In those early models, the washer would drain, the motor would stop for a few seconds then start up again and then this time spin. The problem was some times the gear shifter wouldn't shift into spin.that was 1985 to 1994 since then spin gear shifter has been more dependable.Having said that I belive you have random shift problems, and they made a new shift kit, and it wasn't hard to install. but doing this in someones laundry room could get oily, and most techs just installed a new trans. Try this, when the water drains out, and motor stops and then no spin, push timer knob in and out till it spins(or if it spins) if it won't spin but after messin with it it finally spins, you have a bad shifter and buy a new trans
