My washer won't spin or drain. It is like it only has one cycle. If I turn the timer dial to the correct spot to drain and spin, it works, but I have to do this for every cycle it goes through from the rinse to the final spin. I bypassed the lid switch and it didn't help. Sometimes it will actually work, though it only lasts for about 8 loads (a little over a week) and then it is back to the other for a while. I have been dealing with this for 6 months now because my husband won't let me call a repair man because he says it still works. Any ideas?

The problem is in the timer.
