Where my son works, as a warranty tech, he told me they've had some complaints
of small drips, and some transmisions had been over filled with oil, and when the washers warm up, the oil expands enough to push out little oil. Bettyboop

Did you just replace the lid switch this week?If the lid switch really works, then the neutral spin little shifter part in the trans is bad, and they used to make a rebuild kit for this, but you might have to replace the transmission,Bettyboop

Is it worth the cost if it is not the trans what else cvould it be? How much $ is such a trans. how difficult is it to replace?

Lets ck everything over once more.
#1 lid switch works.

#2 motor runs in spin, but spin basket doesn't move.

#3 pumps out water in spin cycle.

If this is true, and it's only 1-4 years old, I'd re place the trans yourself. The cost is less than having a repairman come to your home to replace a pump or timer.

A whirlpool tranny is the easiest trans to replace of all washers, 25-30 minutes.
remove agitator, take off cabinet, un plug wiring harness from motor, remove hoses from pump, (leave pump on motor) pop off clips holding motor, remove 3 shiney trans bolts from trans, pull out trans. set it aside, pull motor mount off old trans, and put it on new trans, pull old chrome clutch off , and put it on new new trans, (it's a good idea to replace weak motor coupler with heavy duty part#285753A motor coupler. Smear a very very litle grease along the long trans shaft. Now slide in transmission and install the 3 bolts and so on.
I know it looks complicated, but the opposite is, it's easy, ask Shiela for your parts.
