my washer will only wash 1 load then there is faint burning smell and then it wont do anything after a day a so it will run again i had the timer replaced but thats not it im not sure if it is the motor or the agitator. the first thing that stops working is the wash and spin cycle any suggestions

It sounds like it could be motor tying up and overheating causing the safety limit to open. Once it cools down the circuit closes and the motor operates till it overheats again. if you have a clamp on amp meter clamp the amp meter on the common lead to the motor and monitor the amperage draw. If the amps continue to rise as the washer is running - the motor is shorting out.
