Red face Washer won't agitate or spin
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110 20972 992
Age: 5 - 10 years

My Kenmore Elite washer, model #11020972992, will not agitate or spin. It just hums when it gets to those cycles. The tub fills and the cycle indicator/timer spins, but nothing else happens. Also, what's the best way to disassemble this washer?

It sounds like the coupler that goes between the motor and transmission has broke.

Tip the washer back and see if you see black rubber and white plastic. This would have been the coupler.

To take the washer apart follow these instructions:

Remove the two screws in the control panel.

Flip the control panel up toward the wall.

In each corner of the cabinet you will find a brassy looking clip, release the clips.

Unhook the wiring harness for the lid switch.

Open the cover and grasp the inside of the cabinet and tilt the cabinet toward you and lift at the same time.

Place the cabinet out of your way.

Here is a link to the parts of your washer model 110 20972992.

Here is the coupler for your washer. The part number is PS1485646.

Pulled the coupler and it is intact.

Check and see if there is something in the pump jam it.

If the motor will not start and just hums in either spin or agitate it could be a problem with the capacitor or the motor.

The capacitor is used to start the motor.
