Question Washer Won't Agitate - Clicking Noise
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.238321

My washer is giving me trouble again.

This time it will fill and drain but not agitate or spin. There's a clicking noise like the agitator is trying to move but it can't.

That model is actually built by Whirlpool and is a "direct drive" model.
What you're describing is likely caused by a broken drive coupling.

You can purchase a new coupling here:

The Kenmore I am working currently working on has a "dual" agitator. See the parts diagram Partselect.com - Whirlpool Washer Parts And All Brands of Appliance Parts

The teeth on the agitator dogs round off and cause the top half of the dual agitator to stop working . The washer seems to agitate fine when at low or 1/2 full because the bottom half is turning via the direct drive and can be seen but when full, the water and clothes do not move because the agitator is stopped.

Cheap fix for less than 30.00 bucks if this is the problem

Default Won't pull down the clothes agitater

Hello, I can't get the new posts to take my question so after reading this is a close description of my problem. I replaced the dogs and cam with the kit and it tells me after replacing the bolt the agitater sould only turn clockwise and mine turns both ways. When ON the top and bottom agitater go back and forth together so the clothes don't get pulled down. How tight do I turn the bolt because the dogs would grip but the tighter I turn the bolt does not allow the dogs to move too much tention? Hope someone will find this lost and misplaced question of mine.

thank you for you time, I have repaired this machiene before but not this part.
Every thing else works fine.

Default Checking repair

If you take off the plastic housing cover where the bolt goes and watch the dogs with the machine running, you will see the ratcheting action of the dogs in the cam's teeth.
The last repair I did, I inadvertantly replaced one of the dog ears backwards and it locked the top and bottom halves together. This sounds like it could be your problem, make sure these are oriented correctly.
The bolt should be snugged down but dont go crazy tightening it. It is just holding these two pieces from moving up not holding the dogs and cam in tension.

A stupid question before you go through a whole disassembly, is it possible you also may be over loading the machine where the clothes have no room to move. I frequently find myself doing this and need to pull a few pieces out.

Default backward dogs

I thought that might be my problem but looking at the dogs they look like they can only go in one way(am I wrong?) and be backwards I will try again but is there a way of telling if they are backwards.

clothes are piling up here....thanks for helping....

I also should have said that putting on bolt loosely the dogs work but won't water get in? also if I put the bolt with regular turn until it needs a little pressure it locks into one with the bottom and only moves back and forth but If I put a little pressure on the top withmy hand the top mover works properly as if the dogs are gripping and releasing. thanks
