Default Washer will not fill with water but spin cycle works
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT9704
Age: More than 10 years

My washer is about 10 years old. It has been working fine. I went to turn it on today and fill with water, but nothing happened. The red light comes on and the spin cycle works. The water will not fill in any cycle. Do I need to change the fuse in the lid or is there more to it??

Try changing the water temperature.

Try changing the water level.

Check to make sure that no one has turned the water off.

If you have a meter check these thing for continuity.

Here is a link to your washer model LAT9704.

I changed water temperature and water level with no results. Water is still on. I opened the front panel with the knobs on it. I found the fuse and it was blown out. I got a new one and put it in. The washer worked normally. I did several loads of laundry last weekend. This weekend I went to start a load and same thing happened......no water. I opened panel and the fuse was blown again. Could power surges be blowing this fuse?? What size of fuse am I supposed to be using in this machine?? Or is there something else wrong with my washer that is causing this fuse to be blown so soon??

The maximum the fuse should be is 4 amps.

If the fuse is blown again check the lid switch for proper operation.

Here is the lid switch assemble for your washer.

I changed the fuse, then it filled with water but will not agitate, spin or drain. So I installed a new lid switch assembly. That didn't help, it still fills with water but will not agitate, spin or drain. Any suggestions?

Check in the control panel for burnt wires.

If the washer will not do anything now there has to be another problem that caused the fuse to go.
