Default Washer will not agitate
Brand: Maytag
Age: 5 - 10 years

The washer does everything correctly except for two things. During wash cycle it spins in one direction rather than agitate. And at the end of a spin it doesn't brake.
Is it possible the brake is the cause of both problems?

The problem you are having is caused by the brake being stuck.

Do not try to disassemble the brake it is under 200 psi.

You should have a Maytag technician service your washer.

You can fix this yourself.
Remove tub and tranny assembly and turn upside down. You will see the brake and brake housing secured with 6 screws. Remove one and buy 6 screws that are much longe like 2inches.Then remove one screw at a time and replace them all with the longer screws. You now can partially back off all screws till the tension is off the spring, then disassembly is possible. Go to Appliance repairs, Appliancehelp, Appliances, repairs to dryers washers dishwashers fridges repairs microwaves ge maytag kenmore frigidaire westinghouse inglis, appliance how to take apart information, purchasing an appliance help, model number help, for further instructions
