Cool Washer will fill with water and begin to agitate and that is all that it dose
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: WPSQ4160T5W
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello,
I have a GE Profile washer.
I put the dirty close into the washer machine and trun the control knob to small med or large load. The tub fills up with water and washer begins to agitates.
With the lid up I can see the close washing... Now with the lid down, now remember, close are still washing. The timmer switch dose not move. I
have change the timmer switch twice already and still having the same problem.
I don't feel like it is the lid switch because the washer still works in the other cycles if I turn the control knob manually.
Now If I turn the control knob manually to spin, drain or rinse cycles the washer machine works.

***The problem that I am having is when I put close in washer and turn on, water fills the tub and it starts to agitate. Now lets say that I walk away and come back in about 30 minutes or so, the timmer is still in the start location and machine is still agitating.

I have tried seting the control knob on just spin and the washer will spin but once again the timmer dose not move.

I also have tried setting the control knob in the other cycles; drain, rinse and washer works and same problem with the timmer wont move.

Again if I stop the machine and turn the control knob the washer begins to spin and water drains out. But I'm having to do this manually.

Has anybody ever had this problem or know of this problem?
How can I fix this problem?

Thanks,

Art

Your timer motor is not getting power or is shot. I can see getting one bad timer replacement but 2 in a row is is almost impossible so not getting power is probably the fault
I was unable to find a wiring diagram for your washer but was able to view the
actual timer.

I am used to seeing both wires for the timer motor connected to the timer assembly.
The view I found showed one side of the timer was a loose connector. This is the one I would trace back you may have a broken wire or a bad connector somewhere in the machine

An old GE schematic I have showed power to the timer motor is:
1. Push-Pull Start switch - yours works
2. Lid Switch - Since your spin cycle works only with the lid closed the switch is OK
I would check the wire from the lid switch to the timer for continuity
3. Timer Motor - we know that doesn't run
4. Multiple combinations of timer contacts depending which cycle you are in - should be OK you tried two timers
5. Water Level Switch - yours is OK

Check your wiring diagram to see if there is anything else in the circuit which could block power to the timer

Only other possibility I can think of is you received the wrong timers as replacements. This is highly unlikely because all your other operations/cycles run OK

Hi, I would replace the water level switch because, when the washer filsl to the level the motor will come on. It also sends a message to the timer to get moving. One other thing to check is make sure that when you installed your new timer you connected all wiring, and didn't pull off any wires connecting to any conponentry in the control panel.
