Default Washer Violent Banging and Shaking on spin
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: WPRB9110DWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi all,
The washer has been working perfectly fine for just over a year.

I put a load in today of bed sheets and a few clothes - certainly not a huge load and something I've done often.

On the spin cycle, I heard a very load banging sound from the laundry room, and darted there to investigate. The washer was jumping left and right off the ground with this loud sound. I immediately stopped it and unloaded the drum. I ran a drain n' spin cycle to test it. There was no banging sound. Loaded the wet clothes again the same issue began upon spinning.

I opened the front cover of the washer and everything seemed to be intact and in place. I think the issue was that the drum was banging against the left and right sides of the washer but I couldn't reproduce it again with the cover off. I gradually added all the clothes and sheets back in while checking inside until the drum was full again.
There was no longer an issue and the clothes were spun out.

What could have caused this? I haven't experienced this behavior before from the washer. The drum seemed to be held on well and the 4 rubber straps in the corners were all attached and not broken.

Thanks in advance,
sanc

Make sure your floor has no holes in it and the feet are adjusted properly.
If ok, check the spin basket for wobble, if so you will need to tighten the nut holding the basket in place, it's a left handed thread.
Also,it's possible your motor was dropping out on low speed. Can verify with amprobe on low speed run winding.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I forgot to mention that I did check the feet for leveling and the floor is clean and clear with no holes.

The spin basket does have a natural wobble to it, but I can't make out if its more than how it usually wobbles. I'll try to find this nut holding the basket and tighten it.

I'm not sure if it could be the motor dropping out at low speed, because the issue was occurring during the spin cycle, when the motor is running very fast - But I will keep an eye on it for the next wash load and give an update.

Thanks again,
sanc
