Question Washer sounds like bongo drums
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: LTF2140ES0
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have had this washer for about 2-1/2 years. Love the washer. About 2 months it started making a thumping noise not often. Now it has gotten worse. It sounds like someone is playing the bongo drums. I called a repair man he said he had not heard this noise before( made me feel comfortable). I have been told it is the spring barring assembly, that it would cost $115.00 for the part plus labor anywhere from $200.00 - $300.00. I was told that i probably used to much soap. My question is, is it worth fixing and can we fix it ourselves and how hard is it to do.

Is this a front loader, because they have two shock like stabliizers on the bottom sides that can break and then your unit would be off balance.

Easy fix, if it's a front loader. Open front botton panel and have a look see!

Yes it is a front loading machine. It has two shocks both seem to be intact. I can shake tub no noise. But if I turn tub by hand it sounds like it is catching on something. The repairman said he could see the broken spring. Any other ideas?
Thanks

Ok

The tub is held at the top by two springs. Go to the website

Frigidaire Manual Search Results

and see a diagram. Remember to replace both springs

Just pop the top and you should be able to change them out.

I have the same washer and also like it

John

The top or the back. The other repairman took off the back, and said it was the pulley inside. He tightened the hex nut then could not get it undone. I called the company and told them what he did, I watched him do it and he lied and said he did not tighten it. Do you think that is all that is wrong? Whatkind of soap do you use?

Well I'm sure he lied. Tightening the nut did nothing, but make it tough to remove later if you want to replace the bearings (actually you replace the entire tub). If you ever need to replace the bearings, don't, go buy a new machine. I saw one yesterday for $477.00. what a deal.

Whichever it won't overwhelm you to remove the back. Don't let all the srcews scare you.

Nonetheless the springs are at the top and easy to change. Block the tub with blocks of wood then replace the springs.

I use very little soap, only powder. I use powder bleach because machine will dump liquid bleach onto the clothes before they are wet.

Rule of thumb is that you use 1/3 scoop for hot and more for cold.

I must say that I like this machine alot and remember never load it so that the clothes, when wet, can't "fall".

My favorite machine is a 20lb Dexter. All stainless steel construction.

Thanks!! I will try tomorrow. I just got off work, I work late 2 nights a week. I hope I never have to replace tub. I hope it is the problem. It just makes me sick.
Do you use HE soap? or regular. I watched the first repairman take the back off I think I made him nervous. I had to find him my allen wrenches, he did not have any. Can you believe it? Thanks again!! Have a good night.

Anyone with big hair can do this.

I went to the Frigidaire web site and looked at the parts diagram to make sure I wasn't California batty

ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/ProdInfo...5995430005.pdf

There definitely are two springs that hold up our tubs. Make sure you block up the tub with blocks of wood, (UNPLUG IT) before you attempt the repair.

I use regular Cheer or Tide. On occaion I wash a load only using TSP or Clorox 2 because they are both water softeners and get old soap out of fabrics.

Go to that website for help. Good luck.

J

My husband took off the top for me, both springs are ok. I think it is the baring is bad. I wonder about replacing the whole tub? I do not think we can get the hex bolt out of the back because he had tightened it. Would it be really hard? And worth it? I looked at washers today I do not want a top loader.
My hair is not that big, but I am a cosmetologist.
