Default Washer smoking
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT9406AAE
Age: 5 - 10 years

During the spin cycle to drain water, there is smoke and a burning rubber smell. The washer drains the water ok. I put the washer on its back. The belts are not broken and the belt on the big pulley is slightly frayed in a couple of spots and the belt on the smaller pulley looks good, but the smaller metal pulley itself is very hot thanks

You probably have something cought in the tub. Pull off top of tub and check , you might just find the item on top of the spin basket.

Look on top of the transmission for leaking tub seal. You just might have a bad spin tube bearing/seal. If not, you will have to pull out spin basket all the way to clear out whatever jammed in there.
