Question Washer repair
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.15944400
Age: 1 - 4 years

My washing machine is less than 3 years old, it has not been spinning the clothes as well as it should for about a year now. Yesterday it stopped working completely.I pulled the motor/gearbox assembly and the brake seems to remain engaged.I cannot spin the drum or agitator by hand and I always could previously. I couldn't really understand what would keep the brake from egaging, unless the cam was applying pressure. The drum spins freely with the brake disengaged. What could have worn out to cause this?

Was the gearbox assembly oily?

Does it not spin or agitate now? Just what is it doing or not doing?

Does the motor sound like it running, but the tub does not spin?

If the motor coupler looks ok then you need to take a look at the clutch during the spin cycle.

You will have to run it with the cabinet off to do this.
This mean you will have to jump out the lid switch.

With the washer in spin the clutch on top the gearbox should spin. If it does not replace the gearbox.

If the clutch does spin then the gearbox is ok and the trouble is between the clutch and the drive block.
