Washer Makes thumping sound when spinning stops

HELP! I have a 5-6 yr old Roper I bought from the local Fry's a few years back. It is a great washer, still works, agitates, and spins, BUT when it stops it's spin cycle it makes a loud thumping noise. Almost exactly like a tire would make if you were driving on it while flat. If you could tell me what needs to be done, I would like to take care of this myself. Wife wants to drop

$1300

for new ones and I am not ready for that! Especially if it is repairable.

My maytag clothes washer leaks water into the tub after operation is over with.
Could this be a faulty water inlet valve? Thank you.
