I have a Kenmore Elite that my mother was given when her father passed away, and unfortunately, do not have the owner/warranty manual to be able to look up the model number. I had checked for the model number in all the places suggested, but nothing. Anyways, the washer is a Kenmore Elite/ king size capacity/ Quite Pak III/3 speed motor with 6 speed combinations/Total Care System, and it is only about 2-3yrs. old. The problem that I am having with it is that it continuously shuts off at the beginning of the cycle when the tub is filling with water. Is there anything I can do to repair this or should I call for a repairman?

I'm also have the same problem w/ my Whirlpool LSC9000PW (just out of warranty).

If you slam the lid you might be able to get it to finish the wash cycle. I'm thinking it is the lid switch; however that is uneducated guess.

Thank you for the advice, but I believe that I have discovered what is wrong. I had used the troubleshooter guide re: Whirlpool/Kenmore drive washers and what I read, it sounds like I will need to replace the temperature switch. At first, I thought it was my water fill switch, but when I checked it out all was fine. It wasn't until changing my temp settings that I realized the washer only shuts off when I am using hot or warm water.
