we have a maytag washer, washer started and was filling (the lid was down)
my husband put in another piece of clothing in and the washer just stopped, like no power nothing. like it blew a fuse, does washers have fuses
please help

You probably have a bad lid switch or it shifted and no longer works. Check for the lid switch click when you close the lid.
