I have an Inglis apartment-size washer for 12 years, and I repalaced old timer because smoke was coming out of it, that was about two years ago. In Novemver 2007 the machine washed the clothes but would not spin, drain the water; when iturned the timer manually to rinse it would but would not spin or drain. I had someone look at it, at first he thought that the problem was that the pump was clogged. That wasn't the problem! Next, he thought that the problem was the motor; the motor spun counter-clockwise, but not clockwise. He concluded that the problenm was the timer, even though there were no black marks inside the grooves of the timer. I was not convinced that it was the timer, especially since I had a brand new one installed almost two years ago!!!
Luckily, my mother has the exact washer as I do, the house version and not apartment-size. I decided that after taking a closer look at my machine again, I noticed that the lid swithc was not springing back when slighly pressed down. I called my mom and asked her to press down on her lid swith and tell me what happens. Sure enough, she said that it springs back quickly. Bingo!!! I ordered the lid switch from Sears. I took me less than ten minutes to take out the old one and install the new lid switch! I immediately turned on my machine and watched the timer dial with great anticipation to see if I had solved my problem. I saw the dial turn, I became more excited and anxious, then the machine stopped washing. A second later, I heard the motor click....then the water started to empty out in the sink!!!! Oh my goodness, I have never been so happy to see water going down the drain in my life. I think that I might have even kissed and hugged my machine! And rightfully so...do you have any idea how many thousands of dollars I have saved with my washer and dryer??? |
