Question Washer fills, but doesn't wash or spin
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT9635
Age: More than 10 years

I have had three or four blown fuses in the past several years that prevented my washer from filling. This time when the fuse blew I didn't have a replacement. Being in rural Montana I used alluminum foil to make the connection in order to fill the tub. When I turned it on I tripped the breaker. I made it to the closest gas station and found some 5 amp fuses instead of the 4 amp that it specifies. Now the washer will fill, but it will not wash nor will it spin. I am thinking it is probably the lid switch, but it appars to be OK. My test light is missing, but my test fingers tell me that I have power to one side of the switch, oops. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Schmegly

What you need to do mis replace the lid switch assembly. The party # is 22001682. Take the top control panel off. There are two phillips head screws on top of the control panel on the left. Take of the inside one, and the inside one on the right. That will give you access to the panel. On the switch assembly is a micro switch, which is most likely the primary reason for the fuse blowing, the lid switch, and the fuse. Replace the whole assembly, that is the part Number I gave you. When reinstalled, make sure the lid is open, and hold it in place, then close the lid, and put the 1 screw in the assembly. Make sure when you open and close the lid, you hear the switch make contact. If you need me you can reach me at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
