Unhappy Washer: drain, no agitate or spin
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: kaws977eq0
Age: 5 - 10 years

Age is estimate...not original owner. It is definitely 5+ years old.

Machine fills, cycles, and drains A-OK.

Will not agitate. Will not spin. Makes louder-than-usual noise when attempting to do either--more noise than just the pump.

The only troubleshooting I have done so far is to verify cycling and draining under zero load with screwdriver in door switch. (Switch *sounds* like it always did--probably not the problem.) Also tilted up to look underneath...but learned nothing, as this model has a bottom panel which would have caught any debris.

I found the diagram for the 977eq0 at this site.

Any thoughts on what I should check next, or what this problem is likely to be?

Thank you for your advice.

Thank you for that link to the repair guide!!

Disassembly done. And, nope. My coupler does not look anything like the good one in those pictures!! The white prongs from the motor-end sheared off at their base. And there *is* a lot of black "stuff" all over everything. Just really small pieces, and shavings and powder.

Time to order a new coupler!
