Question Washer dirties clothes
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: WWWA8700A
Age: 5 - 10 years

For a few months already, washer dirties clothes, leaving black (not pitch black, but dirty-gray color) spots, some of them elongated. Not every item gets dirty, and not every time I do washing, but it does happen most of the times.

I took off all plastic parts at the top of the drum, and cleaned very thoroughly the dram, all the parts, and between the drum and sides/top of the machine, as much as I could. But it did not help still get dirty clothes.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Machine works fine otherwise, and I would hate to spend hundreds of dollars buying a new one (with a very real risk of getting a lemon).

Can you please verify your model number?

It should be on a tag with the serial number.

If this is an older style washer it could be oil that is getting on the clothes.
