Default Washer cycles

can anyone tell me if the various "cycles" are all determined by the timer or if there is different hardware to accomplish them? ie does a gentle cycle use the same motor and transmission speed just at a slower rpm or is the motor running at the same rpm and have another speed in the transmission?

Yes the timer determines the cycles of the washer.

The gentle cycle uses the same motor but at a lower rpm.

so then, if i purchase a timer for a machine that has a gentle cycle, i can install it in a machine without that feature and have the gentle cycle? making the assumption the wiring harness/connectors are identical.

i would imagine i would also need the face plate decal to identify the "new" positions on the dial.

You would also have to have a duel speed motor.

What the timer does is make the electrical connection to make the different features work.

It is the brain of the machine.
