Default Washer agitates inconsistently
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.24852300 series 80
Age: 5 - 10 years

Similar to BobKrause56' Maytag in the previous post, my Kenmore spins fine, but doesn't agitate well during the wash or rinse cycles. IT agitates very slowly, and sometimes not at all. And I can spin it in either direction by hand during those cycles.

I'm looking at the diagram in the Parts List and have in hand the Agitator Auger and Agitator Dogs. I can't figure out exactly how these parts work together to do the job. They do not seem to be broken or worn excessively, but I don't know what a new dog looks like. And maybe the problem is somewhere else.

The Agitator Assembly seems to fit snugly on the drive shaft is doesn't appear to be broken or worn.

Any help appreciated.

Edit Update: OK, I removed the auger and dogs and the agitator assembly agitates fine without them. I'm guessing it's either the auger, dogs, or both. There is some white powder on and around the dogs. I guess that is the plastic that has worn off. Is there a way I can tell which of these parts is the culprit, or if it's both?

Your washer will wash as good as it did before the dogs went out, so you have time to get a new set of dogs. I've tried many tests without the dogs, and the washer washes fine without them. The dogs and the auger are mearly window dressing!

Au contraire ! Without the agitation my clothes were not clean nor were they rinsed well. It turns out my dogs were worn. I replaced them and all it good. With worn dogs the machine just filled up, shook a little, and drained. With a functional auger the clothes actually cycle down.
