Default Very terrible sound when washer drains and spins!
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAV5000AWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

My washer is making a terrible sound when it drains and spins...Doesn't when it's agitating. I hate that noise...sounds terrible...like a loud clicking sound! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't smell anything ...like rubber burning either! I put it on the delicate cycle to drain and rinse and it's not making that terrible sound...at first you could hear a little noise but it went away...so far! NEVER MIND...IT'S MAKING THAT SOUND ON THE DELICATE CYCLE TOO!

Thanks

It is most likely the tub bearing that will have to be replaced.

Remove the front panel and check to see if there is any sign of a water leak in the center of the tub.

This is usually what takes the bearing out.

To remove the front panel release the clips between the top and front panel.

Here is a link to your washer model MAV5000AWW.

How hard will this be to do it yourself?! Will I just need the bearing or other parts? I figured I would need the seal...not to experience with fixing this item...but my dad is...so just wanted to know what to really look @ to fix it right. Thanks for your quick reponse...Guess I will call my dad..lol.

It will depend on how easy the washer come apart but all you should need it the tub seal and bearing which is number 9 on the breakdown.

Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Ok...when dad came over...we turned it back on...the sound...is sounds like it's coming from the vertical pump..I believe that is what he said and by looking at the diagram. He is going to replace it first and see what happens...oh well...you can't argue with your dad..especially when he's coming over to fix it...LOL...I will let you know what happens. Plus our local shop around here had this pump too...so that is a plus!!!! Thanks!

Thanks for your help in this matter. When dad came over and listened to the complete cycle ...he really thought it was the pump. So we got the pump...put the vertical pump on and it's working great! Dad was really glad that this was the problem cause he really didn't want to take the washer apart to fix the spin bearing. Dad is a very good handyman. He can fix almost anything. He said that if it was the spin bearing ...that he would of probably took the washer to the fix it shop down here...lol...Anyways ..I can wash clothes and I'm glad cause when you have a teenager praticipating in varsity basketball...you really can't be without the washer....lol...Thanks again...and I really appreciate your forum. Won't forget this place!
