Question Unknown part (possible problem)
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.20702990
Age: 5 - 10 years

Washer developed a no spin problem the other day. Had gone through the wash cycle with no problems, tub also drained fine. Found the motor coupler was broken. Part is on order and should be here in the morning. I want to make sure I have checked over anything else that could have cause the coupler to break. (washer was repaired with a similar issue 2 years ago (except it would not drain, nor spin that time). I have checked the continuity with the lid switch and it works fine. Doing a visual inspection I came across a piece that to me appears to be possibly broken. The problem is the parts list does not show this part anywhere. I exhaustive search across web sites have yielded no results either. There are 2 of these parts located underneath the tub area, both are made up of a white cup type piece with a loose metal rod, tapered on one end with a hole in the tapered end floating around loose in this white cup. Hopefully the photos are attached to give everybody a visual reference of what I am talking about. The first photo shows the cup I am talking about with the 2nd showing the metal rod outside of the cup.

Does anybody have any ideas on what this is and if it is something that has broken and fallen down into this cup catch piece?

When the washer was new, those metal pins were in holes in the ballence plate on the bottom with a thing that looked like hood pins on a hot rod car going thru those pins in the little plastic cups. a yellow plastic strap was on the back on your new washer. then when you un crated your new washer then pulled the yellow strap, it pulled the lock pins out and then your washer was ready. the pins fell into those plastic cups for disposal. If they didn't have those plastic cups, the pins would fall on the floor, and all those owners would jam up the 1-800 sears lines, asking what fell out of my washer!
