Question Transmission Question
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: PAVT920AWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

During spin cycle, the brake repeatedly engages and releases. The clothing does not dry completely. Is this an electrical or mechanical problem? This is a Maytag Performa.

This sounds like it may be electrical.

Does the motor cut in and out when this is happening?

Default Transmission Question

Thanks for the reply. I am not certain about the motor cutting off and on, however the machine has now stopped going into spin cycle. The pump empties the tub but the agitator runs when the timer calls for spin. It seems as it does not reverse the motor direction as it should. I suspect we have a major problem and the machine is under two years since purchase.

With the washer empty tilt it back so you can see under the washer.

In the middle of the pulley there is a plastic cap.

Remove the cap and spin the pulley in a counter clockwise direction.

There is a little white thrust bearing that should engage.

If this is broken this could be your problem.

The piece is number 22 on the base and motor breakdown.

Here is a link to your washer model PAVT920AWW.

Thank you. I will check this out. We have, in the meantime, purchased a replacement. The suspected cost of repair was going to be 1/2 the cost for a new machine. Your help is greatly appreciated. If your remedy is correct, we will donate the machine to a needy family after repair. That is if thr cost of repair is under $50.00. I will post again, if I dcide to do the repair. Venton.
