Default Timer won't cycle
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LA882
Age: More than 10 years

The timer on our washer won't cycle through the different stages, although it can be turned to the different stages manually. How do I check whether the timer or the timer motor is bad or both?

In looking at the parts for this washer, it appears the timer motor is listed separately from the timer. Does the timer (Parts Select #PS60503) come with the motor (Parts Select #PS65338) or would I need to order them both?

Check to see if the timer motor is running.

You should be able to hear it.

If the motor is running the gear on that timer or the gear in the timer may be stripped.

Remove the timer motor and check the gear.

If the timer is not running all you should have to replace is the motor part number PS65338.

If you need the timer the motor comes with it so you would not have to order the motor.

Here is a link to your washer model LA882.

Thanks for your response.

Could I also check for continuity through the windings on the motor to test it (after disconnecting it of course)?
