A few days ago our front loading washing machine developed a problem. I heard a loud pop, almost like a seal or gasket had broken and then a whine from the machine. It continued to work after I looked at it but during the spin cycle, it thumps like crazy.

I did check around a few websites and this one(this one included) and there is a lot of talk about the inner drum and the spider bracket. I don't think that is my problem because the inner drum doesn't move.

I have opened up the back of the machine to see if I could spot an obvious problem but didn't see one. Could I have blown a shock? The two springs are still in place.

Thanks for any advice. I would like to try to fix this myself before calling a repair man.
