Default Strange washer leak
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: wpsq3120t9ww
Age: 5 - 10 years

Washer leaks during spin cycle. I removed the front panel and noticed a small 1/2" black rubber tube which is mounted on the bottom front left of the tub. The tube is app. 15 inches long and is not attached to anything on the other end, just lays on the bottom pan of the washer. If I put water in the tub and then run the spin cycle to drain the water it appears the machine is draining properly but at the same time I am getting a substantial amount of water leaking out of this tube onto the floor.

Here is a link to your washer model wpsq3120t9ww.

Have a look at the hoses and tell me which one is leaking.

Default leaking washer

Thank you for responding. When looking at the diagram of the tub assembly, on the bottom left hand side is a small square attachment to the tub and coming out of this is a small nozzle, the rubber hose I am describing is supposed to be attached to this nozzle (the diagram does not show this hose). I spoke with someone yesterday who thinks the machine is both agitating and spinning at the same time and that is causing water to come out of this tube which he described as an overflow.

If the washer is only doing this in the spin cycle it is likely that the water is no draining as it should.

It may be leaving to much water in the tub and when it starts to spin the water is forced up to the over flow.

Check your pump for blockage and the drain hose.

Default strange washer leak

Thanks Sheila.

I took off the hoses to the pump and everything seems clear. For a test I filled the washer tub a couple of inches with water, it immediately started to drain out of the hose I mentioned earlier. The one which is located on the bottom left exterior of the tub.

My wife mentioned she washed a couple of towels which had some mulch like wood chips stuck to them??Any connection?

I have a similar machine. The black tube you refer to should be connected to the pump which should be in the lower left corner as you are facing the rear of the machine. My hose feels very flimsy.

When you say that it immediately started to drain from the hose do you mean when you put in the spin cycle?

Smile strange washer leak! solution

I appreciate everyones help. It turns out the tube I described as coming off of a small nozzle attached to the front left (when looking at the machine from the front) bottom of the tub is actually a tube which distributes bleach into the wash during the wash cycle. The tube came loose from the back of the bleach tray at the top of the washer. I replaced the tube and voila, tipped the guys $20 who were in the driveway unloading the new washer and told them I didnt need it. Gil's Apliance in Bristol RI. No questions asked took it right back no charge.
