Default Stops mid-cycle
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: PAV2000AWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

The washer fills w/ water, then buzzes very loud several times (maybe every thirty seconds) - no agitation. I opened the lid and smelled distinct electrical fire odor. I advanced the timer to spin and it drained/spun.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help.

Either a bad motor or timer, or both, or something jamming the tub. Pull out front panel and turn tranny pully either direction, if spin direction is hard to turn, you have either a bad brake under the tranny, or a tub jam.
Go to partselect.com for take apart info and remove spin basket, check for debree.
Post results.

I checked the pully. It turns in one direction and the tub spins. The pully will not turn in the other direction.

Thank you for your continued help.

You have a bad transmission. This washer is a really bad design, they have had all kinds of trouble with the Performa washers.I think warranty is only for 5 years on tranny, but check your warranty info. This is a rather labor intensive job and if labor not covered I would not get it fixed.
