Default Spin Cycle Intermittant
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT8204AAE
Age: More than 10 years

First let me say this is a great site and I am glad that I have found it. After searching the forums I have been unable to find the answer to my question so here we go...

My Maytag will fill, drain, agitate, etc... all fine with no problem. The issue I am having is the spin cycle. On the normal setting there is two spin cycles where the unit seems to get "hung up". The unit will start to spin but then stops. If I dial it back around to spin it will go ahead and kick in and go. Sometimes just the one time restart works, sometimes I have to do it 2-3 times for each spin cycle. I have checked the lid switch fuse and we are ok there. When I had the top plate off however and replicated the problem I heard a loud click coming from that lid switch assembly. From what I have learned here I assume its either : Lid Switch or Timer. Any thoughts or ideas on an easy way to test? Thanks in advance!

Also wanted to add... that I noticed the timer will partially advance without the spin cycle running and then hang up...

All these views and no response??? I want to try to jumper across the lid switch but I have a problem. I have attached a link of the "switch" but I have 2 "switches". The first one seems pretty obvious... one in one out. But the second switch has 3 wires and I am not sure how to "jumper" that switch. I really need help folks. Please advise.

Thanks.

Ok.. not sure why my other posts are gone... but anyway.. I jumpered across the "black" switch and it seemed to solve the spin issue but when the washer cycled back to rinse I blew a fuse... any ideas?

Thanks

Wow... 87 views and no replies... I didnt think my question was so complex...

I guess I am just going to have buy the lid switch and timer and replace both to see if that fixes the problem. The washer has been spinning without hanging up the last 4-5 loads so I am not sure what else the problem can be...Still love the site but not getting any help...

frustrated me...

Well... she finally died. The machine will fill but thats it. No agitate, no more intermittant spin, nothing. Off to buy a new lid switch and timer today to see if either will fix the problem. I will post my results for the board since it seems none of the resident "experts" have been able to provide any insight.

Well.... she's finally back to normal. It ended up being the timer. As I stated earlier I bought both and started with the lid switch. I have found this site useful but the "resident" experts less than so. Parts select lost a sale but oh well. I hope this information provides useful to others.

Thanks

Hi one4gatr,
I wanted to let you know that I found the information that you provided helpful, and I registered just to tell you that. I suspect that the reason you had so many page views is that they were people like me that have the same problem so they can't help.

My Maytag LAT8714AAM is doing the same thing as yours was, however now it just makes a buzzing sound when you put the timer at random places. If you get it just right it will spin. I smelled something burning last Thursday and then it just sat with water in it right around the rinse time. We have appliance protection through our gas company and they replaced the timer, but still no joy. We were so sure it was the timer!

I'm starting to think these washers were timed to do this! This one has not been used that heavily (only the 2 of us).

Anyway, I just wanted you to know that you gave me some hope of a good outcome

Doxi
