Default Spin cycle bangs and clunks
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 11022942101
Age: 5 - 10 years

Please help me figure out what's wrong with my washer. When it goes into the spin cycle, it also goes clunk clunk clunk while it's spinning. It doesn't appear to be off balance. It still seems to go in a circle. The load has nothing to do with it - it still does it when it's empty. It just started doing this today. I have noticed lately it doesn't seem to wring the water out as well as it used to. I'm not sure on the age - somewhere between 3-7 years - I just can't remember. Is there something typical for this washer that goes out? We use it a ton - 7 adults in the house. Thanks sooooo much for any help !

It sounds like the coupler that goes between the motor and transmission may be failing.

You will need to remove the cabinet of the washer to access the pump and motor to remove them.

To remove the cabinet you will have take the two screws in the console out and flip the console up on it hinges. First remove the decorative end cap to access the screws.

Remove the two brassy looking clips in each corner.

Disconnect the lid switch wiring harness.

Open the washer lid and tilt the cabinet toward you and lift at the same time.

Place the cabinet out of your way.

Release the two clamps holding the pump on. You do not have to take the hoses off of the pump just swing it the side.

Remove the wiring harness on the motor.

Remove the two motor mounts.

Lower the motor and check the coupler.

Here is a link to the parts of your washer model 11022942101.

Here is the coupler part number PS1485646.
