My washing machine has been acting up by indiscriminately working and not working. Some days it will agitate only on the delicate cycle but not the perma press or cotton sturdy cycles. It will fill up with water and then stop. It used to be an issue of it tripping the circuit breaker but that is not the case now. Any idea on what the problem is?

Any idea if this is worth fixing compared to the cost of buying new given it's age? I'm all for fixing it myself but if the part is over $100 I don't see the need to extend the life of an aging machine for much longer.
Thanks in advance.

You should check your timer for burnt contacts. Also, you may have other problems like a tub seal/bearing problem. If you can get it to run, check the current draw in spin. If a lot higher than agitate=bad tub bearing.
